BELLMAWR - The Roughriders and Bellmawr split a twin bill on Thursday evening, with the Roughriders winning the first (3-2)
and Bellmawr taking the second (6-5).
Zach Welsher earned the win in the early game, throwing a complete game with eight strikeouts. The righty scattered nine hits.
The Roughs broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth when Drew Dark and Mike Wade both singled. After a walk to John Tedeschi to load the bases, Tom Daly coaxed a walk with
two outs to force in the winning run. Welsher then finished his complete game effort by getting the final out on a strikeout with the bases load.
Dark finished 2-2 with three walks, an RBI, and run scored.
In the nightcap, Bellmawr scored six runs in the first inning, then held on for a 6-5 victory.
The Roughriders’ bullpen of Dom Kratky (5 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K) and Dom Giandonato (2 IP, 3 K) held Bellmawr scoreless after the six run outburst, enabling the team
to slowly mount a comeback. Mike Byrnes had an RBI single in the second and an RBI double in the fourth to help the cause. Thomas Gosse’s RBI single in the fifth
pulled the Roughs to within one, but the team would not score the tying run over the final two frames. Gosse finished 3-4 with two runs scored, and RBI and two stolen bases.
HADDONFIELD - The Roughriders finished off a four win week by defeating Maple Shade by a score of 9-4. Trailing 3-0 after just a
half inning, the Roughs scored six runs in the first inning and three in the second, highlighted by pitcher Carter Fichter’s three-run double. Fitcher then settled in, going six solid
innings (5 H, 1 ER, 7 K) to earn his second win of the season. Mike Wade, making his Roughrider debut on the hill, pitched the seventh to earn the save. Wade, Jack
Parkinson, and John Tedeschi all had multiple hit games to lead the offense. The final week of the regular season concludes next week with four games.
