| DEPTFORD - Mike Byrnes' RBI single in the fifth inning provided the difference in the Roughriders' 2-1 opening day victory over Deptford on Friday night. With the score tied at one in the fifth, starting pitcher Nick Cavanaugh reached on a HBP with one out and advanced to second on a fielder's choice. With two outs, Byrnes delivered his second hit of the game to score Cavanaugh with the game winner. The Roughs had jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth, when Matt Cassell's sacrifice fly scored Phil Guinto (leadoff walk). But Deptford scored an unearned run in the bottom half of the fourth off Cavanaugh (4 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) to knot the game at 1-1. Cavanaugh earned the win, while Luke Westfield went two innings (1 H, 1 BB, 2 K) to earn his first save. The game was called after six innings due to darkness. | |
