BELLMAWR - The Roughriders used a quick start and timely relief
work to post a 7-5 opening game victory over Conlin Baseball in the 2006 TriCounty Championship Series. A four-run
first was highlighted by Steve Wyland's bases loaded, two-run single. Wyland would end up at third when the ball was misplayed
in left field, allowing all three runs to score. In the third, the Roughs used a Dave Vadurro single and pair of walks to load the bases
for Brian Reagle, who singled in two to make it 6-1. Dan Severino singled home another that
same inning to make it 7-1. Starter Brian Spicer scattered 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings, striking out
three and walking six. Reliever Ryan Smith came on with the bases loaded and the score 7-5 to record
the last out and earn his second save of the playoffs. Game Two is scheduled for 7pm tomorrow
night in Bellmawr.
BELLMAWR - The Roughriders, riding the arm of starting pitcher Mike
Cummings, defeated Conlin Baseball 3-1 on Wednesday night and swept the 2006 TriCounty Championship
Series. Cummings went the distance, allowing an unearned run on six hits and six strikeouts. The Roughs
got on the board in their first at-bat when Dave Vadurro delivered a two-out single, scoring Ian Wallace
who had doubled. That score stood until the fifth when Mike Carlino and Jim Nastasi both singled. A walk to
Steve Wyland setup a sacrifice fly by Brian Reagle, scoring Carlino to make it 2-0. In the sixth, Dan Severino sliced a
triple down the left field line and promptly scored on Wallace's sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead as the
game moved to the seventh. Conlin scratched out a run to make it 3-1, but Cummings induced a series-ending
double play with the go-ahead run at the plate to seal the win. Wallace finished the game with a double, RBI, and run scored
while Nastasi went 3-4. The Roughs went a perfect 6-0 through the playoffs and finish the season with an
overall record of 22-6-1.
