2012 Year In Review

WEEK 8

Roughriders 8, Hardenberg 5 (6 innings) July 23, 2012
HADDON TWP – The Roughriders rallied with four runs in the sixth inning to defeat Hardenberg, 8-5. Hardenberg scored four in the first to take an early lead, but the Roughs responded in the second. Chris Bartell doubled in two runs with two outs to make it 3-2, and Ryan Easterday hit his fifth homer of the year in the top of the fourth to make it 4-3. Bartell was at it again, doubling in the tying run in that same inning which sent the game to the sixth tied at four. There, the Roughs loaded the bases with no outs when Dan Snyder's comebacker to the mound resulted in a force at home, but the relay to first was thrown away allowing two runs to score. Phil Guinto followed with a RBI triple and Sean Menickella's fielder's choice brought home Guinto. Dean Wilson won for the fifth time, allowing just two earned runs over five innings. He struck out six Hardenberg batters. Easterday pitched the sixth to earn his third save (3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K).
Roughriders 9, Golden Nugget 0 July 24, 2012
HADDONFIELD – Mike Reagle threw five no-hit innings, helping lead the Roughriders to a 9-0 victory over Golden Nugget. Reagle extended his shutout streak (12 innings) while striking out five and walking just one. The win was the third of the year for the veteran lefthander. Christian Rahman threw the final two innings to secure the shutout, the team's sixth of the season. Mike Wasienko doubled in two runs in a four-run first inning that sent the Roughriders to a season sweep of Golden Nugget.
Roughriders 8, Camden 6 July 25, 2012
CAMDEN - Lex Still came out of the bullpen to pitch six innings and earn his first Roughrider win in an 8-6 victory over Camden. Still relieved Dan Synder to start the second inning and limited Camden to four hits. He struck out six and walked six, allowing five earned runs. Still helped his own cause with a two-out, three-run triple, all part of a six-run third inning which gave the Roughs an 8-0 lead. With the win, the Roughriders took the season series from Camden, 2-1.
Roughriders 3, Red Dwarf's 3 (5 innings) July 26, 2012
HADDONFIELD - The Roughriders and Red Dwarf's played to a 3-3 tie on Thursday evening. The game was called in the top of the sixth inning due to lightening with runners on first and second and no outs for the Roughs. By league rules, the game is considered complete and both teams earned a point. Dean Wilson tripled in Phil Guinto in the third inning, and Chris Vonderschmidt followed with a sac fly scoring Wilson to erase an early 2-0 deficit. In the fourth, Ryan Easterday's double scored Guinto again to give the Roughs a 3-2 lead. But Red Dwarf's pushed across a run in the fifth without hitting a ball out of the infield to tie the game before weather ended the game. The Roughs go into the final day of regular season play with a one point lead in the overall standings.
Cherry Hill 4, Roughriders 2 July 27, 2012
HADDONFIELD - In a game to decide the regular season champion, Cherry Hill defeated the Roughriders 4-2 on Friday night and secured first place overall in the standings. Trailing 1-0 in the first, the Roughs manufactured a run. Dean Wilson singled, stole second, and advanced to third on an out. With two outs, Wilson scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Cherry Hill broke through with three runs in the third inning of starter Jason Cavanaugh (3 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K) to gain a 4-1 lead. The Roughs tallied once in the fifth after consecutive singles from Ryan Easterday, Rory McTear, and Chris Bartell loaded the bases. Mike Wasienko's RBI ground out would be the final run the home team would score. The Roughs threatened in the seventh, but left the tying runs at second and third. The loss, just the second in July for the team, results in a second place finish overall and a first round meeting with the winner of the Golden Nugget/Hardenberg in-game playoff. The best-of-three series begins Monday in Haddonfield.
