WASHINGTON TWP - Mike Shannon continued to dominate the 2021 playoffs, and the Roughriders got a game winning hit from Monny
Strickland to take the opening game of the 2021 TriCounty Finals by a score of 2-1. Shannon went the distance again, striking out six while allowing just four hits.
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Jake Swerdloff led off with a single. After stealing second, Swerdloff advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt. That allowed
Lloyd McLaughlin to tie the game 1-1 with a bloop single into right over a drawn in infield. The Roughs would take the lead for good in the fifth. Jim Bruno walked
with one out and advanced to second on a passed ball. Strickland then ripped a single to right center, easily scoring Bruno for a 2-1 lead. Shannon then went to work,
striking out four of the next six hitters in the fifth and sixth innings. In the seventh, he quickly retired the first two batters before hitting two batters and issuing a
walk to load the bases. After going 3-0 to the next batter, Shannon delivered three straight strikes, including the final swing and miss to clinch the game.
This was Shannon's third win of the playoffs and seventh overall in 2021. Game Two is scheduled for tomorrow night at Alcyon Park in Pitman. First pitch again at 7pm.

Roughriders 5, Cherry Hill 0
August 11 & 12, 2021 Game 2 - Finals
PITMAN - The Roughriders defeated Cherry Hill by a score of 5-0 and were crowned league champions for the 2021 season.
Drew Dark started and earned the win with three innings of work (2 H, 1 K) before rain and lightning halted the game. At that point, the Roughs had their 5-0 thanks
to a four-run second. With two outs and Lloyd McLaughlin on first after a single, Danny Vazquez and Shane Daly both reached on hits to load the bases for
Isaiah Ishmail, who was HBP allowing McLaughlin to score the first run. Eric Sabato then doubled down the left field line to score two, followed by Jim Bruno's RBI single
to score Ishmail and make it 4-0. In the third, Jake Swerdloff walked with one out, and when a Cherry Hill error sent him to third, Thomas Gosse' delivered
a sac fly RBI for a 5-0 lead as the game moved to the fourth. Rain and lightning, however, would put any celebration temporarily on ice as the game was suspended and continued the next day.
Zach Welsher pitched a scoreless second half of Game Two (4 IP, 3 H, 1 K) to earn the biggest save of the season. The team finished the year with an overall record of
21-8, for a .724 win percentage and went a perfect 6-0 through the playoffs.
