2003 Year In Review

WEEK 6

Roughriders 11, Ott's 0 July 7, 2003
HADDONFIELD – The Roughriders won their second straight game and most lop-sided of the year, defeating Ott’s 11-0. Winning pitcher Granville Gehris went 5 1/3 innings, giving up six hits while striking out one and walking two. The offense contributed early and often, scoring two in the first, three in the second, and four in the third. Mark Kraus led the offense with a 4-4 night, driving in three runs. In all, the team banged out 14 hits in the game.
R. Clemente 2, Roughriders 1 July 9, 2003
CAMDEN – Roberto Clemente scored two runs in the first and held on for a 2-1 victory over the Roughriders. The loss wasted a terrific outing by Brian Spicer (1-2), who yielded just four hits in his second complete game of the year. He struck out three and walked just two. The Roughs, held to just one hit through five innings, started a comeback rally in the sixth. Dave Page and Ian Wallace put together consecutive singles, allowing Matt Longo’s single to pull the team within one. But the visitors were denied the tying run in suffering their third defeat of the year.
Bellmawr 5, Roughriders 0 July 10, 2003
BELLMAWR – The Roughriders continued to get good pitching but the bats had another tough night, as the Roughs dropped their second consecutive game, losing to Bellmawr 5-0. Butch Magliaro (3-1) suffered his first loss of the year, but deserved a better fate. Three unearned runs in the first dug an early hole for the Roughriders. The team managed just four hits: Mike Montanero (2-3), Bill Kohut (1-2, 2B), and Jeff Pilling (1-3) provided all the offense. The team looks to rebound Friday, hosting Kepple's Carpet.
Kepple's 4, Roughriders 1 July 11, 2003
HADDONFIELD – The Roughriders dropped their third straight game and lost their top spot in the TriCounty standings, losing to Kepple's Carpet 4-1. The Roughs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, as Rob Oryl and Ian Wallace hit back-to-back doubles. But Kepple's would go on to score four unanswered runs to hand the hosts their second setback at home this season.
