QTR-FINALS Conlin Baseball 5, Roughriders 3 July 30, 2007 Game 1 - Qtr Finals HADDON TWP - The Roughriders were defeated 5-3 by Conlin Baseball in the first game of their Quarter Final Playoff series. Conlin jumped to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first and would add two additional runs in the third and fifth innings to build a 5-0 lead. The Roughriders broke through in the bottom of the fifth, when Jim Nastasi blasted a homerun with Phil Arena and Matt Longo aboard to make it 5-3. But the Roughs would get just one more base runner the rest of the game in falling behind 1-0 in the series. Mike Cummings started and went the distance (7 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 7 K). Game Two is scheduled for Tuesday night in Washington Twp. Roughriders 13, Conlin Baseball 2 July 31, 2007 Game 2 - Qtr Finals WASH TWP - Mike Carlino drove in five runs and Rob Schork struck out 10 Conlin hitters in a 13-2 win that forces a Game Three in this Quarter Final playoff matchup. Carlino stroked an RBI single in the second and ripped a three run homer to left in the third as the Roughriders built an 8-0 lead after just two innings. Carlino finished his 3-3 night with a double of the centerfield wall for his final RBI in the fifth. Schork pitched a complete game, allowing only four hits to go along with his 10 punch outs. Mike Cummings (3-4, 2 2B, 4 RBI) and Jim Nastasi (2 RBI) also contributed to the 13-run barrage. Game Three is set for 6pm at Haddon Twp High School on Wednesday night. Roughriders 2, Conlin Baseball 1 August 1, 2007 Game 3 - Qtr Finals HADDON TWP - Brian Spicer threw a five-hitter, retiring 14 of the last 15 hitters he faced, allowing the Roughriders to beat Conlin Baseball 2-1 and advance to the Semi-Finals. Spicer allowed a run in the second inning, then settled in to shutout Conlin the rest of the way. The Roughriders tied the score 1-1 in their half of the second on Mike Carlino's RBI groundout which scored Dave Vadurro. In the third the Roughs would take the lead for good. Paddy McNamara singled to right and would eventually get to third on two wild pitches. Matt Longo then delivered an RBI single to left making it 2-1. Spicer struck out five and walked four in the complete game effort. Longo went 3-3 with a double to go along with his game winning RBI. The Roughriders, the number two seed, will face Deptford (six seed) in a best-of-three series beginning Friday night.
